The Danish Shellfish Centre (DSC) was established in 2002 as a commercial fund. Today, the center is part of DTU Aqua, National Institute of Aquatic Resources at the Technical University of Denmark.

The task of the Danish Shellfish Centre is to focus on the Limfjord's shellfish in both Danish and international context. The center is using modern technologies in the production of oysters, blue mussels and lobster in particular, but other mussel species, crabs and different species of seaweed are also on the laboratory table and hopefully soon also on the dining table.

In 2013, the Danish Shellfish Centre opened an outreach center, whose main tasks are to communicate the latest knowledge in the field to primary and secondary school students, tourists, associations and companies. The outreach center tries to break with known static methods of outreach and create a new, dynamic form where the audience does not have to adapt to the outreach, but where the outreach adapts to the audience.
